SPRINT® PNS System

Blue Background

SPRINT® PNS System is a 60-day treatment that offers a low-risk, non-surgical, drug-free option for managing a variety of chronic pain conditions. This innovative therapy may provide lasting relief—without the need for a permanent implant. Sprint PNS is a short-term therapy that targets the nerves responsible for pain by helping to interrupt and retrain pain signals. Many patients experience relief that continues even after treatment ends.

This treatment may be recommended for:

  • Patients experiencing chronic pain that has not improved with other therapies
  • Patients who suffer from common painful conditions, such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder and knee pain.
  • Patients who are not candidates for surgery
  • Patients who prefer a non-surgical approach to pain management
  • Patients who suffer from postoperative pain.

How Does Peripheral Nerve Stimulation Work?

Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) works by placing a small, flexible wire near the affected nerve. There are many options for placement to offer a wide variety of pain relief.  The wire interrupts and helps to block the pain signal before they reach the brain. Over time, this process can help reset how your body processes pain, leading to longer-lasting relief without a permanent implant.

What to Expect from Treatment

Simple, In-Office Procedure
The procedure is performed in our office and typically takes less than 30 minutes. You will remain awake and receive a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable. After the procedure, you will rest briefly while we monitor you. You will need someone to drive you home and should plan to take it easy for the remainder of the day.

During the 60-Day Treatment Period
During the 60-day treatment period, you will wear a small, discreet external stimulator designed for comfort and ease of use. Most patients are able to continue normal daily activities with minimal interruption. The therapy is adjustable, allowing it to be customized to your comfort and level of pain relief.

After Treatment
Once treatment is complete, the lead is gently removed in the office without the need for surgery. Many patients continue to experience meaningful pain relief even after the device is removed: Short –Term treatment designed for Long-Term Relief.

SPRINT® PNS System may be the right alternative for you, if you are looking for a short term treatment that can lead to long term relief without medication or surgery. Our pain management team in San Antonio is here to help determine if SPRINT is a good option for you.
