Why do I need annual blood work if I take long term medication?
To ensure the safety and effectiveness of your long-term medication, SJPS requires annual lab work to closely monitor your kidney and liver function. These vital organs are responsible for processing medications and eliminating waste from your body, and changes in their function could impact how well your medication works, or how it is processed.
As part of this process, you need a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), a blood test that provides valuable information about your body’s chemical balance and overall organ function. The CMP includes measurements of important markers that help us assess both kidney and liver health, ensuring that these organs are functioning optimally while you are on your prescribed treatment.
By conducting these tests annually, we can identify any potential issues before they become serious, allowing us to adjust your treatment plan as needed. Regular monitoring is essential to minimize risks and ensure that your medication continues to work safely and effectively for your long-term health.
